MOSAIC: ICT and Societal & Industrial Challenges of Horizon 2020
MOSAIC will fulfil the following objectives:
-
Analyze potential areas of cooperation between Europe and MED countries around the thematic area of ICT applications of ICT to Societal challenges.
-
Identify key stakeholders to launch and run TPs in MED countries including representatives from industrial (large companies and SMEs) and academic sectors.
-
Promote and support the creation of TPs in MED countries, including the production of a Vision document and Strategic Research and Innovation Agendas, as tools to set up sustainable scientific cooperation with Europe.
-
Create a Global Strategy for EU-MED cooperation in the field of ICT and ICT applications to Societal challenges.
-
Liaise MED-TPs with counterparts European Technology Platforms (ETPs) and contribute to update the European strategy for International Cooperation.
-
Increase awareness on the potentialities for cooperation between Europe and MED countries in the fields of ICT and ICT applications to societal challenges.
In order to strengthen cooperation between European and Mediterranean organizations, MOSAIC proposes the creation of 2 Technology Platforms (TPs) in the Mediterraan region:
-
MED-TP1 covering Maghreb countries (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya).
-
MED-TP2 covering Mashriq countries (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria).
What is a European Technology Platform: ETP?
"Foster marketplaces for cooperation between stakeholders and work out a long-term strategic plan for R&D for specific technologies involving major economic or societal challenges... They would ensure synergy between public authorities, users, regulators, industry. Consumers, and poles of excellence viewed as places where basic research and technology transfer are closely linked" from EC communication, "Industrial Policy in an Enlarged Europe", COM 2002, 714 final.
All Mediterranean partner countries identify the main ICT stakeholders and also collect the data to identify the main fields of interest in ICT in each country in order to develop collaborative projects around research, development and innovation between Mediterranean and European entities.
The role of Holken Consultants & Partners is to contribute to the elaboration of the SRIA (Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda) and dissemination/exploitation.
